Our experts can enhance your smile with a variety of braces options
Braces are the most widespread and common form of treatment for fixing misaligned teeth in Australia. Braces can be worn by all ages and are an orthodontic method used to correct uneven and crooked teeth.
Braces consist of an amalgamation of brackets and wires that are affixed to the front of the teeth. The brackets are designed to grip the teeth and the wires are tightened and loosened accordingly to move the teeth to the anticipated position. Dr Finkelstein ensures that the final alignment of teeth is perfect for each individual to assure that they get the results they desire.
The length of treatment varies greatly and depends on a number of factors including the age of the patient, amount of teeth needing to be moved and the overall health of the patient. Treatment time varies from a few months to years, with older patients’ treatment being longer due to their denser jaw bone, which takes the teeth longer to move.
Braces are a beneficial treatment for all ages and can realign the teeth, despite initial severe misalignment. It is recommended that children only commence the braces treatment when all of their teeth are permanent, generally around the age of 7 or 8. Despite the need for adults to wear braces for longer, the final result is always as effective.
Types of Braces
One of the treatment options that Sydney dentist Dr Michael Finkelstein offers for misaligned or crooked teeth and bite problems, is the fitting of braces. There are different types of Braces that help guide your teeth to straighten them, close gaps, correct your bite and give you a perfect smile. With the most up to date technology braces are more comfortable and less noticeable than ever before.
The most common types of braces applied by Dr Finkelstein are metal braces. They are made of hospital-grade stainless steel, and are comprised of metal brackets that will be bond to your teeth and hold the archwire in place. The archwire guides your teeth into place and is adjusted throughout your treatment. Frequently children and teenage patients choose their favourite colour of elastic bands to enhance the pressure applied by the braces and to bring colour and fun to their braces treatment experience.
Ceramic types of braces are made of clear material and are the same size shape as metal braces, though they are larger than metal braces. Because they are clear they appear to blend into your teeth, making them less noticeable. This makes them suitable for teenagers and adults, for whom cosmetic concerns may be higher than for children.
Ceramic braces need more careful oral hygiene than metal braces because they are more fragile and also can stain easily if not cared for properly.
Lingual types of braces are the same as traditional metal braces, except that the brackets and archwires are placed on the inside of teeth. These braces are customised for your teeth and your mouth and are invisible when you smile. Lingual braces are more difficult clean and can be more uncomfortable, particularly initially.
