The Rise of Adult Orthodontics

I’d like to tell you about a patient I saw again this week. She is still celebrating having her braces off.  I remember meeting her 3 years ago as a young shy lady of 20 years who lacked self-confidence.  We have watched her evolve into a lovely young woman who feels – in her words – sexy and confident – and just loves smiling.  She tells us she has sore cheeks because she has been smiling all week.

Orthodontics creates not just beautiful smiles, but equally importantly, improved dental health and enhanced quality of life for patients of all ages. Orthodontics are becoming more and more popular amongst my adult patients. The most common form of orthodontics is braces and Invisalign.

Braces

Braces use a steady and mild pressure which gently move the teeth into their proper position over a period of time.

Invisalign

Invisalign consists of a series of nearly invisible and removable clear aligners that the patient changes every two weeks.  As the patient updates and replaces each aligner, the teeth continue to gently move over each two-week period, and so the process continues until the teeth have reached their perfect position.  Invisalign have become very popular particularly amongst my adult patients.

I’ve seen myself the self-confidence that comes when someone feels free to smile. It is important to get the right advice on any dental procedure so that your expectations can be met, giving you another reason to smile.
